Vor Ort. Melike Kara

The Ludwig Foundation has invited Melike Kara for a site-specific installation that will be on display at Haus Ludwig from June 29 to October 29, 2024. In her latest work, Kara interweaves tradition and future, exploring the interplay of materiality, transformation, and cultural complexities. The installation addresses the play of inside and outside, of painting and ornamentation, of visible versus invisible. And the interaction between tradition and contemporary – a dynamic that also plays a significant role in the daily work of the Peter and Irene Ludwig Foundation. For On Site,” Melike Kara works with various materials, from fabric to latex to plaster and paint. Alongside the play of inside and outside, a movement element is added to the overall installation. An interesting parallel emerges in this project: while Peter and Irene Ludwig once collected handicrafts and structurally integrated them into the villa now called Haus Ludwig,” Melike Kara transforms this process by first creating the art of ornamentation and then integrating the building into this artwork. Despite this reversed approach, she achieves the same goal as the Ludwigs: connecting tradition and modernity, cultural heritage, and contemporary life.
